IAM Examiner Chris Smith

Chris is a Police Class 1 Driver and Driving Instructor with Dorset Police, and he will run through the format and nature of the test. We’re also hoping to hear his opinion as to what sets an advanced driver apart from the ordinary driver, and how to put that extra sparkle in your driving to achieve a F1rst. Throughout his 30 years in the Police Service, 20 of which were spent in the Traffic Department as a Police Motorcyclist he headed up the force Motorcycle VIP team which escorted HM the Queen on several occasions. Chris also supports the DocBike charity, and continues to train Police Drivers and Motorcyclists as a civilian instructor. In 2017 he was awarded the prestigious Queen’s Police Medal as part of the Queen’s New Year’s Honours due to his passion and endless energy for road safety.
